The Regional Research Committee for University-level Health Research in the Eastern Finland

The Regional Research Committee for University-level Health Research in the Eastern Finland

Collaborative Area is an institution required by the Health Care Act. The regional research committee on health research at university level decides on the allocation of state research funding for research projects in its area. The core task of the research committee is to promote and administer the implementation of university-level health research in the collaborative area of Eastern Finland. The committee is composed of multidisciplinary representatives from health care units in the collaborative area.

The state grants funding to research committees in collaborative areas to be used in university-level health research. Funding is granted to the research committee for four years in accordance with a decision made by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The granting of state research funding is based on the fulfillment of the priorities and objectives of the research, as well as the quality, quantity and effectiveness of the research during the previous four-year period. Funding for health research can be applied for by the wellbeing services counties operating the health care unit, state mental hospitals or service providers declared by a decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (= public health care operators).

The Regional Research Committee for Health Research at University Level in the Eastern Finland Collaborative Area decides on the application procedures for state research funding (VTR) and sees to it that the application process is implemented. The research committee decides on granting VTR for research projects conducted by organisations eligible for VTR on the basis of applications. In addition, it is responsible for reporting on the use of funding to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The report indicates the use of funding by priorities.

The practical activities of the Regional Research Committee for University-level Health Research in the Eastern Finland Collaborative Area are managed in the wellbeing services county of North Savo (WSCNS) at the Science Service Centre. The liaison officers of the Eastern Finland Collaborative Area, Islab and Niuvanniemi Hospital ensure information distribution and communication within their own organisation.
