Kuopio University Hospital (KYS) Röntgen (X-ray services) serves the residents of the entire Wellbeing Services County of North Savo in its hospitals as well as in its health and social services centres. 

We produce high-quality imaging and procedural radiology services in a safe manner, look after screening imaging studies in the region, and offer radiation protection training for healthcare providers in the region. 

From our facilities, you can obtain native X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, transillumination, ultrasound and mammography examinations performed by expert staff. 

Do the following

In order to access KYS Röntgen imaging examination, you always need a written referral written by a public sector physician. 

If protheses have been inserted in your body or surgical operations have been performed on you, do remember to mention this to the doctor. 

Pregnancy may be an obstacle to an imaging examination. 

You can make an appointment for native x-ray examinations at any service location, regardless of where you live. For other examinations, the staff of the sending unit will book an appointment and you will receive preparation instructions for them before the imaging procedure. 

Emergency imaging examinations are performed without pre-booking in the order of urgency.  

For whom and on which terms

In public health care, a physician’s referral is always required for imaging examinations. Private service providers offer imaging services also without referral. 

In order to access examinations, you need a physician’s referral. 

Payment information

Client fees are not collected for examinations. The results of the examination are reviewed at the doctor's office, where an outpatient clinic fee is normally charged for the visit.
