The mission of the wellbeing services county 


The North Savo wellbeing services county provides healthcare, social welfare and rescue services for the over 248,000 residents in North Savo. The wellbeing services county currently has some 12,800 employees. 

Part of the North Savo wellbeing services county, Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) also provides specialised healthcare for patients coming from outside the Kuopio region. The hospital therefore is in charge of the specialised healthcare services of roughly one million residents in Eastern and Central Finland. 

The North Savo wellbeing services county covers the healthcare, social welfare and rescue services of the following 19 municipalities: Iisalmi, Joroinen, Kaavi, Keitele, Kiuruvesi, Kuopio, Lapinlahti, Leppävirta, Pielavesi, Rautalampi, Rautavaara, Siilinjärvi, Sonkajärvi, Suonenjoki, Tervo, Tuusniemi, Varkaus, Vesanto and Vieremä.
 
The wellbeing services county is in charge of the following public services, among others: 

  • basic healthcare, including outpatient visits and inpatient wards at health centres 
  • specialised healthcare at Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) 
  • prehospital emergency medical services 
  • fire and rescue services 
  • oral healthcare 
  • mental health and substance abuse services 
  • maternity and child health clinics 
  • services for persons of working age, including social work with adults 
  • social services for families 
  • child welfare 
  • family law services 
  • services for persons with disabilities 
  • housing services for older persons 
  • home care 
  • rehabilitation 
  • services by school psychologists and school social workers 
  • school healthcare
